Nowowarpieńskie Lake is situated within the Natura 2000 Area of Special Protection of Birds – Szczecin Lagoon. There are two islands on the lake: Riether Werder on the German side and Łysa Island with a surface area of 0.5 km2 fully situated in Poland. From the north Nowowarpińskie Lake is connected with Szczecin Lagoon from which it is separated by two narrow straits between Grodzka Peninsula and Łysa Island, and Stare Warpno (Altwarp) in Germany. In the southern part the lake cuts into Nowowarpieńska Peninsula, and in the north, right next to Nowowarpieńska Bay – a peninsula where Pogrodzie is. From the south there are numerous waterways falling into the lake from the German side, while in Poland Myśliborka River, which goes along the border, falls into it. Its average depth is approx. 2 m, while its maximum depth can reach 9 m. Nowowarpieńskie Lake and its surroundings constitute a very interesting place for tourists, water sports enthusiasts and fishermen. The conditions to go kayaking, windsurfing or kitesurfing are perfect. You can also use boats. In the lake there are various types of fish, such as bream, pike, burbot, roach, pike, perch, and even eel. In Karszyn, situated on the east shore of Nowowarpieńskie Lake, in an old park there is a Neo-Renaissance palace from the end of the 19th century. The shores of the lake are covered with swamps and peat vegetation in places. In Nowe Warpno there is a sandy beach with a jetty. There is a special exit prepared for the disabled. The water is clean, shallow and the bathing area is marked. There is a lookout tower on the peninsula from where you can admire the surroundings. There is also a promenade stretching from the northern part of the peninsula, next to the harbour, to the beach. Apart from Nowe Warpno, also Podgrodzie and Karszyn are located at the lake.
