• Address: Skwer Dariusa i Girenasa, 74-300 Myślibórz

This unusual monument was unveiled on the 75th anniversary of the tragic death of Lithuanian pilots - Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas by the then President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus. The monument is the work of Lanauskas, a Lithuanian artist. From afar, it looks like an ordinary large boulder split into two parts. The boulder hovers slightly above the lawn, because it has been placed on steel legs. Only when we approach closer, can we notice that the inside of both parts of the stone has been drilled and polished. On the inside edges, there is an inscription commemorating the tragic flight of the Lithuanians, and in its interior the names of two cities have been written: New York (the left half) and Kaunas (the right one). It as the flight itinerary of the plane Lituanica. A metal silhouette of Lituanica, a few centimetres high and made of light metal, is put between the cities. Commemoration of Darius and Girenas in Myślibórz is not accidental - the Lithuanian pilots ended their flight on 17th July 1933 with a crash in the forest of the village Pszczelnik, a few kilometres away from Myslibórz.
