After 1990, the port of Barth became an important center for maritime tourism in the region.

Sailors and water sports enthusiasts from all over Germany and many parts of Europe come to the area to enjoy the charming maritime interaction of the Baltic Sea and the waters of the Bay. Port Barth has modern moorings. It is the largest port on the waters of the Bay between Barhöft and Ribnitz-Damgarten and is the starting point for many cruises to the waters of the Bay or across the Baltic Sea to Scandinavia. Historic sailors are also often seen here during the year. Passenger ships to Zingst and Hiddensee also depart from the ballast tank. Traditionally, the city's port hosts Sailing and Port Barth Days every July, with shipyard days and numerous regattas. For many years in a row, the Port of Barth has been awarded the European environmental seal "Blue Flag" for its very good environmental management, and has also received the "Yellow Wave."

Traditionally, Barth Harbor Days and numerous regattas are held every July. To the west of the city's harbor is a repair yard with service facilities, including a water refueling station and winter storage for cruising boats.
